Job Title: Piano Seedlings Assistant Teacher
Reports to: Music Lab Lead Teacher and Office Manager
Position Type: Part-Time / Hourly
Overview
The Piano Seedlings Class is an introduction to piano designed for young beginners, typically ages 4–8. The class focuses on early piano skills, rhythm, listening, and basic music reading, using the Alfred Basic Piano Library as a guide. Instructors help students explore music in a playful, encouraging setting where curiosity and creativity thrive.
This position is ideal for high school students who love music, enjoy working with young children, and want to gain hands-on teaching experience in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities
Lead or assist small-group Piano Seedlings lesson following the Alfred Basic Piano Library curriculum.
Help students learn piano basics such as finger numbers, hand position, rhythm counting, and reading simple notes.
Use games, songs, and movement to make learning fun and developmentally appropriate.
Encourage students with positive feedback and help them stay focused during lessons.
Communicate with the program director about student progress and classroom needs.
Keep teaching areas neat and organized.
Be a positive role model and representative of the music program.
Help with set up and tear down of classroom.
Qualifications
Strong piano skills (at least late beginner to intermediate level).
Enjoy working with young children (ages 4–8).
Friendly, patient, and responsible attitude.
Reliable attendance and good communication skills.
Willingness to learn teaching techniques and follow the class structure.
Preferred (but not required)
Experience with the Alfred Basic Piano Library or other beginner methods.
Previous experience babysitting, volunteering, or mentoring younger students.
Interest in music education or teaching.
Training Provided
All new instructors will receive training on:
The Piano Seedlings class structure and pacing.
How to use the Alfred Basic Piano Library with early learners.
Classroom management and communication tips for working with young students.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

The majority of our instructors teach between 3 to 5 days a week with 10-12 students daily during high volume times of the day (after school and weekends). Positions are also available substitute / short call flexible schedule.

We look for teachers who are masters of their craft and have a strong knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy. Our teachers have the freedom to select the methodology and teaching strategies appropriate for each individual student.
We teach all styles from pop, rock , jazz, country, blues, and classical in our music lessons.

Our teachers have degrees from some of the most reputable colleges and universities. Degrees in music education and/or instrument performance are preferred.
We look for music teachers with considerable experience successfully teaching students.
MMTA Certification and experience is preferable. Familiarity with RCM or ABRSM is a bonus.
Many of our teachers have performed and toured nationally and internationally. More importantly, all of our teachers have warm, friendly personalities, and strive to get to know each student as individuals.
