Piano Group Classes
for 4, 5 & 6 Year Olds
Piano Seedlings Lab
Playful Group Piano for Young Beginners (Ages 4–6)
Piano Seedlings Lab is a fun, fast-paced 30-minute group piano class designed for brand new beginners who start at ages 4, 5, or 6.
Children begin their piano journey in a small, supportive group and may continue in the lab until around age 8, as they grow in skill and confidence. The focus is on real piano foundations: technique, theory, history, and repertoire taught through short, playful activities that match young attention spans.
Ongoing, rolling enrollment: students start as beginners at 4–6 and may stay in the lab as they progress.
What Happens in Class?
Each Piano Seedlings Lab session blends:
Technique: healthy hand shape, posture, and beautiful tone
Theory: patterns, intervals, rhythm, and beginning note reading
History & listening: short stories about composers, styles, and musical eras
Repertoire: carefully leveled pieces for young beginners
In just 30 minutes, students rotate through quick stations such as:
Guided keyboard time with the teacher
Rhythm games and movement
Ear-training and improvisation
Short written or manipulative activities
Skills developed in this class are comparable to early levels of popular series like Faber Piano Adventures (up to about Level 2A), but our core materials are:
Alfred Basic Piano Course
Fingerpower
John Thompson’s Theory Drills
Learning is aligned with the Minnesota State Music Standards, so students progress in a clear, sequential way.
Class Size & Teaching Team
To keep things personal and encouraging, Piano Seedlings Lab is:
Limited to 8 students per class
Led by one lead teacher and one assistant teacher
This ratio allows for individual support while still giving children the energy and motivation of a group.
How the Ongoing Monthly / Per-Class Model Works
Piano Seedlings Lab is an ongoing program, not a short-term session. Students remain enrolled and continue advancing as long as the lab is a good fit.
Rate per class: $22.25
Average monthly tuition: about $89, depending on the number of classes in that month
Billing: tuition is charged per scheduled class each month, so the total may vary slightly month to month
Materials: one-time $25 materials fee (covers books and in-class resources)
Enrollment: rolling—new students may join when there is an opening at the beginning of each month, as long as they are brand new beginners ages 4–6
(Full details about absences, withdrawals, and make-ups are outlined in our school policies.)
Is Piano Seedlings Lab Right for My Child?
This class is designed for children who:
Are 4, 5, or 6 years old and new to piano
Enjoy games, stories, and movement
Can follow simple directions and participate in a small group
Want to grow their skills in a playful, structured setting over multiple years
Students may continue in Piano Seedlings Lab until approximately age 8, or until they are ready to transition into private piano lessons. Students may enroll in private lessons for any instrument at the age of five.
We do not start brand new 7- or 8-year-old beginners in group piano. Those students are typically better served in private lessons.
What Comes After Piano Seedlings Lab?
When students outgrow the lab or are ready for more individualized instruction, we’ll help you transition smoothly into private piano lessons at Medina School of Music. Thanks to their group experience, Seedlings graduates bring:
Strong rhythm and listening skills
Solid early-reading and theory foundations
Confidence performing in front of others
